Whenever we do meditation, or chant mantras, it changes us in specific ways. If we practice meditation and chant mantras a few times, we receive wonderful benefit. But if we want to permanently change our habits, and thus ourselves, practicing meditation and chanting mantras every single day will help us do that.
Sadhana means Meditation. In these 40 Days we will understand and meditate upon the verses of Japji, given to us by Guru Nanak Dev ji. Reciting Japji Daily helps us attune our Soul to the universal consciousness. It changes our vibrational frequency and will also help us break any negative habits that block us from being our truest self.
वडहंसु महला १ ॥ जिनि जगु सिरजि समाइआ सो साहिबु कुदरति जाणोवा ॥ सचड़ा दूरि न भालीऐ घटि घटि सबदु पछाणोवा ॥ सचु सबदु पछाणहु दूरि न जाणहु जिनि एह रचना राची ॥ नामु धिआए ता सुखु पाए बिनु नावै पिड़ काची ॥ जिनि थापी बिधि जाणै सोई किआ को कहै वखाणो ॥ जिनि जगु थापि वताइआ जालो सो साहिबु परवाणो ॥१॥
Wadahans, First Mehl: The One who creates and dissolves the world – that Lord and Master alone knows His creative power. Do not search for the True Lord far away; recognize the Word of the Shabad in each and every heart. Recognize the Shabad, and do not think that the Lord is far away; He created this creation. Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one obtains peace; without the Naam, he plays a losing game. The One who established the Universe, He alone knows the Way; what can anyone say? The One who established the world cast the net of Maya over it; accept Him as your Lord and Master. ||1||
(हे भाई!) जिस परमात्मा ने जगत पैदा कर के इस को अपने आप में लीन करने की ताकत भी अपने पास रखी हुई है उस मालिक को इस कुदरत में वास करता समझ। (हे भाई!) सदा=थिर रहने वाले परमात्मा को (रची कुदरत से) दूर (किसी और जगह) खोजने का यतन नहीं काटना चाहिए। हरेक सरीर में उसी का हुकम बरतता पहचान। (हे भाई!) जिस परमात्मा ने यह रचना रची है उस को इस से दूर (कोई अलग) न समझो, (हर एक सरीर में) उस का अटल हुकम चलता पहचानो। जब मनुख परमात्मा का नाम सुमिरन करता है तब आत्मिक आनंद मनाता है (और विकारों का जोर भी इस पर नहीं आ सकता, परन्तु) प्रभु के नाम के बिना मनुखता विकारों को टक्कर दे जीतने में असमर्थ हो जाती है। जिस परमात्मा ने रचना रची है वोही इस की रक्षा की विधि भी जानता है, कोई जीव (उस के विपरीत) कोई (और) उपदेश नहीं कर सकता। जिस प्रभु ने जगत पैदा कर के (इस के ऊपर माया के मोह का) जाल बिशा रखा है वोही एक मशहूर जगत मालिक है (और वोही इस जाल में से जीवों को बचाने में समर्थ है।१।

सोरठि महला ५ ॥गुण गावहु पूरन अबिनासी काम क्रोध बिखुजारे ॥ महा बिखमु अगनि को सागरु साधूसंगि उधारे ॥१॥ पूरै गुरि मेटिओ भरमुअंधेरा ॥ भजु प्रेम भगति प्रभु नेरा ॥ रहाउ॥ हरि हरि नामु निधान रसु पीआ मन तनरहे अघाई ॥ जत कत पूरि रहिओ परमेसरुकत आवै कत जाई ॥२॥
Sorat’h, Fifth Mehl:Sing the Glorious Praises of the Perfect, Imperishable Lord, and the poison of sexual desire and anger shall be burnt away. You shall cross over the awesome, arduous ocean of fire, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1|| The Perfect Guru has dispelled the darkness of doubt. Remember God with love and devotion; He is near at hand. ||Pause|| Drink in the sublime essence, the treasure of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and your mind and body shall remain satisfied. The Transcendent Lord is totally permeating and pervading everywhere; where would He come from, and where would He go? ||2||
हे भाई! पूरे गुरु की सरन आ कर) सर्बव्यापक नास रहित प्रभु के गुण गया कर।(जो मनुख यह उदम करता है गुरु उस केअंदर से आत्मिक मौत लाने वाले) काम क्रोध(आदि का) जहर जला देता है। (यह जगतविकारों की) आग का समुंदर (है, इस में सेपार निकलना) बहुत कठिन है (सिफत-सलाह के गीत गाने वाले मनुख को गुरु)साध सांगत में (रख के, इस सागर से) पारनिकल देता है॥१॥ (हे भाई! पूरे गुरु कीसरन पड़। जो मनुख पूरे गुरु की सरन पड़ा)पूरे गुरु ने (उस का) भ्रम मिटा दिया, (उस कामाया के मोह का) अन्धकार दूर कर दिया।(हे भाई! तुन भी गुरु की सरन आ के) प्रेमभरी भक्ति से प्रभु का भजन कर, (tujhe) प्रभुअंग-संग (दिखाई पड़ेगा)॥रहाउ॥ हे भाई!परमात्मा का नाम (सारे रसों का खज़ाना है,जो मनुख गुरु की सरन आ के इस) खजानेका रस पिता है, उस का मन उस का तन(माया के रसों से) भर जाता है। उस को हरजगह परमात्मा व्यापक दिख जाता है। वःमनुख फिर न पैदा होता है न ही मरता है॥२॥

By The Grace Of The True Guru: The Jewel of the Lord’s Name abides within my heart; the Guru has placed His hand on my forehead. The sins and pains of countless incarnations have been cast out. The Guru has blessed me with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and my debt has been paid off. ||1|| O my mind, vibrate the Lord’s Name, and all your affairs shall be resolved. The Perfect Guru has implanted the Lord’s Name within me; without the Name, life is useless. ||Pause|| Without the Guru, the self-willed manmukhs are foolish and ignorant; they are forever entangled in emotional attachment to Maya. They never serve the feet of the Holy; their lives are totally useless. ||2||
राग जैतसरी, घर १ में गुरु रामदास जी की चार-बन्दों वाली बाणी। अकाल पुरख एक है और सतगुरु की कृपा द्वारा मिलता है। (हे भाई! जब) गुरु ने मेरे सिर ऊपर अपना हाथ रखा, तो मेरे हिर्दय में परमात्मा का रतन (जैसा कीमती) नाम आ बसा। (हे भाई! जिस भी मनुख को) गुरु ने परमात्मा का नाम दिया, उस के अनकों जन्मों के पाप दुःख दूर हो गए, (उस के सिर से पापों का कर्ज) उतर गया।१। हे मेरे मन! (सदा) परमात्मा का नाम सुमिरन कर, (परमात्मा) सरे पदार्थ (देने वाला है)। (हे मन! गुरु की सरन में ही रह) पूरे गुरु ने (ही) परमात्मा का नाम (ह्रदय में) पक्का किया है। और, नाम के बिना मनुख जीवन व्यर्थ चला जाता है।रहाउ। हे भाई! जो मनुख अपने मन के पीछे चलते है वह गुरु ( की सरन) के बिना मुर्ख हुए रहते हैं, वह सदा माया के मोह में फसे रहते है। उन्होंने कभी भी गुरु का सहारा नहीं लिया, उनका सारा जीवन व्यर्थ चला जाता है।२।

Soohee, Fifth Mehl: Blessed is that soul-bride, who realizes God. She obeys the Hukam of His Order, and abandons her self-conceit. Imbued with her Beloved, she celebrates in delight. ||1|| Listen, O my companions – these are the signs on the Path to meet God. Dedicate your mind and body to Him; stop living to please others. ||1||Pause|| One soul-bride counsels another, to do only that which pleases God. Such a soul-bride merges into the Being of God. ||2||
हे सहेली! वह जीव-स्त्री प्रशंसा योग्य है, सुहाग-भाग्य वाली है, जो प्रभु-पति के साथ साँझ बनाती है, जो अहंकार छोड़ कर के प्रभु-पति का हुकम मानती रहती है। वह जीव-स्त्री प्रभु-पति (के प्यार) में रंगी हुई उस के मिलाप का आनंद मनाती रहती है॥1॥ हे सखी! परमात्मा मिल्न्बे की निशानी (मुझसे) सुन ले। (वह निशानी वह तरीका है कि ) लाज की खातिर छोड़ कर अपना मन अपना सरीर परमात्मा के हवाले कर दे॥1॥रहाउ॥ (एक सत्संगी) सहेली (दूसरी सत्संगी) सहेली को (प्रभु-पति के मिलाप के तरीके के बारे में) ( है और कहती है कि) जो जीव-स्त्री वह सब करती है जो प्रभु-पति को आ है, वह सुहाग भाग्य जीव-स्त्री उस प्रभु के चरणों में लीन रहती है॥2॥
