सलोकु मः ३ ॥ ब्रहमु बिंदै तिस दा ब्रहमतु रहै एक सबदि लिव लाइ ॥ नव निधी अठारह सिधी पिछै लगीआ फिरहि जो हरि हिरदै सदा वसाइ ॥ बिनु सतिगुर नाउ न पाईऐ बुझहु करि वीचारु ॥ नानक पूरै भागि सतिगुरु मिलै सुखु पाए जुग चारि ॥१॥
Shalok, Third Mehl: One who knows God, and who lovingly focuses his attention on the One Word of the Shabad, keeps his spirituality intact. The nine treasures and the eighteen spiritual powers of the Siddhas follow him, who keeps the Lord enshrined in his heart. Without the True Guru, the Name is not found; understand this, and reflect upon it. O Nanak, through perfect good destiny, one meets the True Guru, and finds peace, throughout the four ages. ||1||
जो मनुख केवल गुरु-शब्द के प्रति बिरती जोड़ कर ब्रह्म को पहचानता है, उस का ब्रह्म-पण बना रहता है, जो मनुख हरी को हिर्दय में बसी, नौं निधियां और अठारां सिध्यन उस के पीछे लगी फिरती है। विचार कर के समझो, सतगुरु के बिना नाम नहीं मिलता, हे नानक! पूरे भाग्य से जिस को सतगुरु मिले वह चारो जुगों में (भाव, हमेशां) सुख पता है।१।

सोरठि महला ५ ॥ गई बहोड़ु बंदी छोड़ु निरंकारु दुखदारी ॥ करमु न जाणा धरमु न जाणा लोभी माइआधारी ॥ नामु परिओ भगतु गोविंद का इह राखहु पैज तुमारी ॥१॥ हरि जीउ निमाणिआ तू माणु ॥ निचीजिआ चीज करे मेरा गोविंदु तेरी कुदरति कउ कुरबाणु ॥ रहाउ ॥
Sorat’h, Fifth Mehl: The Restorer of what was taken away, the Liberator from captivity; the Formless Lord, the Destroyer of pain. I do not know about karma and good deeds; I do not know about Dharma and righteous living. I am so greedy, chasing after Maya. I go by the name of God’s devotee; please, save this honor of Yours. ||1|| O Dear Lord, You are the honor of the dishonored. You make the unworthy ones worthy, O my Lord of the Universe; I am a sacrifice to Your almighty creative power. ||Pause||
हे प्रभु! तुम (आत्मिक जीवन की विलुप्त हो चुकी (रास-पूँजी) को वापिस दिलाने वाले हो, तुम (विकारों की) कैद से छुड़ाने वाले हो, तेरा कोई खास सरूप बयां नहीं किया जा सकता, तुम (जीवों को दुःख में धीरज देने वाले हो। हे प्रभु! मैं कोई अच्छा करम कोई अच्छा धरम करना नहीं जनता, मैं लोभ में फँसा रहता हूँ, मैं माया के मोह में ग्रस्त रहता हूँ। परन्तु हे प्रभु! मेरा नाम “गोबिंद का भगत” पड़ चुका है। सो, अब तुम अपने नाम की लाज रखो।१। हे प्रभु जी! तुम उन लोगो को मान देते हो, जिनका कोई मान नहीं करता। में तेरी ताकत से सदके जाता हूँ। हे भाई! मेरा गोबिंद नाकाम और नकारे गए लोगो को भी आदर के योग्य बना देता है।रहाउ।

धनासरी महला ५ ॥ जिस कउ बिसरै प्रानपति दाता सोई गनहु अभागा ॥ चरन कमल जा का मनु रागिओ अमिअ सरोवर पागा ॥१॥ तेरा जनु राम नाम रंगि जागा ॥ आलसु छीजि गइआ सभु तन ते प्रीतम सिउ मनु लागा ॥ रहाउ ॥ जह जह पेखउ तह नाराइण सगल घटा महि तागा ॥ नाम उदकु पीवत जन नानक तिआगे सभि अनुरागा ॥२॥१६॥४७॥
Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl: One who forgets the Lord of life, the Great Giver – know that he is most unfortunate. One whose mind is in love with the Lord’s lotus feet, obtains the pool of ambrosial nectar. ||1|| Your humble servant awakes in the Love of the Lord’s Name. All laziness has departed from his body, and his mind is attached to the Beloved Lord. ||Pause|| Wherever I look, the Lord is there; He is the string, upon which all hearts are strung. Drinking in the water of the Naam, servant Nanak has renounced all other loves. ||2||16||47||
अर्थ :-हे भाई ! उस मनुख को बद-किस्मत समझो, जिस को जीवन का स्वामी-भगवान विसर जाता है। जिस मनुख का मन परमात्मा के कोमल चरणों का प्रेमी हो जाता है, वह मनुख आत्मिक जीवन देने वाले नाम-जल का सरोवर खोज लेता है।1।हे भगवान ! तेरा सेवक तेरे नाम-रंग में टिक के (माया के मोह की तरफ से सदा) सुचेत रहता है। उस के शरीर में से सारा आलस खत्म हो जाता है, उस का मन, (हे भाई !) प्रीतम-भगवान के साथ जुड़ा रहता है।रहाउ। हे भाई ! (उस के सुमिरन की बरकत के साथ) मैं (भी) जिधर जिधर देखता हूँ, ऊपर ऊपर परमात्मा ही सारे शरीरो में मौजूद दिखता है जैसे धागा (सारे मोतियों में पिरोया होता है)। हे नानक ! भगवान के दास उस का नाम-जल पीते हुए ही ओर सारे मोह-प्यार छोड़ देते हैं।
