सभि जीअ तेरे तूं वरतदा मेरे हरि प्रभ तूं जाणहि जो जीइ कमाईऐ राम ॥ हरि अंतरि बाहरि नालि है मेरी जिंदुड़ीए सभ वेखै मनि मुकराईऐ राम ॥ मनमुखा नो हरि दूरि है मेरी जिंदुड़ीए सभ बिरथी घाल गवाईऐ राम ॥ जन नानक गुरमुखि धिआइआ मेरी जिंदुड़ीए हरि हाजरु नदरी आईऐ राम ॥१॥
All beings are Yours – You permeate them all. O my Lord God, You know what they do in their hearts. The Lord is with them, inwardly and outwardly, O my soul; He sees everything, but the mortal denies the Lord in his mind. The Lord is far away from the self-willed manmukhs, O my soul; all their efforts are in vain. Servant Nanak, as Gurmukh, meditates on the Lord, O my soul; he beholds the Lord ever-present. ||1|| ਸਭਿ = ਸਾਰੇ। ਜੀਅ = {ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ ‘ਜੀਉ’ ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁ-ਵਚਨ}। ਪ੍ਰਭ = ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੀਇ = ਜੀ ਵਿਚ, ਮਨ ਵਿਚ। ਕਮਾਈਐ = ਕਮਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਨਿ = ਮਨ ਵਿਚ। ਮੁਕਰਾਈਐ = ਮੁੱਕਰ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਨਮੁਖਾ = ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ। ਘਾਲ = ਮੇਹਨਤ। ਗਵਾਈਐ = ਗਵਾਚ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ। ਹਾਜਰੁ = ਪਰਤੱਖ, ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ। ਆਈਐ = ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
हे मेरे हरी! हे मेरे प्रभु (सृष्टि के) सारे जीव तेरे (ही पैदा किये हुए) हैं, तूँ (सब जीवों में) मौजूद है, जो कुछ (जीवों के) मन में याद किया जाता है तूँ (वह सब कुछ) जानता है। हे मेरी सुंदर जिन्दे! परमात्मा हमारे अंदर बाहर (हर जगह हमारे) साथ है, जो कुछ हमारे मन में होता है वह सब देखता है, (पर फिर भी) मुकर हम मुकर जाते हैं। हे मेरी सुंदर जिन्दे! अपने मन के पीछे चलने वाले मनुखों को परमात्मा कहीं दूर बस्ता प्रतीत होता है, उनकी की हुई मेहनत व्यर्थ चली जाती है। हे दास नानक! हे मेरी सुंदर जिन्दे! जिन मनुखों ने गुरु की शरण आ के परमात्मा का नाम सुमिरा है उनको परमात्मा हर जगह बस्ता दीखता है॥१॥

I obtained this precious human life as a reward for my past actions, but without discriminating wisdom, it is wasted in vain. Tell me, without devotional worship of the Lord, of what use are mansions and thrones like those of King Indra? ||1|| You have not considered the sublime essence of the Name of the Lord, our King; this sublime essence shall cause you to forget all other essences. ||1||Pause|| We do not know what we need to know, and we have become insane. We do not consider what we should consider; our days are passing away. Our passions are strong, and our discriminating intellect is weak; we have no access to the supreme objective. ||2||
यह मनुख जनम बहुत मुश्किल मिलता है, (पहले किये) भले कामो के फल सवरूप हमें मिला है, परन्तु हमारी अज्ञानता मैं यह व्यर्थ ही जा रहा है, (हमने कभी सोचा ही नहीं की) जो प्रभु की बंदगी से दूर रहे तो (देवतायों के राजा) इन्दर के स्वर्ग के महल भी किसी काम न आएंगे।१। (हम मायाधारी जीवों ने) जगत-प्रभु परमात्मा के नाम के उस आनंद को कभी नहीं बिचारा, जिस आनंद की बार्कर से (माया के) और सारे चस्के दूर हो जाते है।१।रहाउ। (हे प्रभु!) जानते बुझते हुए भी हम पागल व् मुर्ख बने हुए हैं, हमारी उम्र के दिन (माया की ही) अच्छी बुरी विचारों में बीत रहे हैं, हमारी काम=वासना बढ रही है, विचार-शक्ति घाट रही है, इस बात को हमने कभी नहीं सोचा की हमारी सब से बड़ी जरुरत क्या है।२।

धनासरी महला ४ ॥ हरि हरि बूंद भए हरि सुआमी हम चात्रिक बिलल बिललाती ॥ हरि हरि क्रिपा करहु प्रभ अपनी मुखि देवहु हरि निमखाती ॥१॥ हरि बिनु रहि न सकउ इक राती ॥ जिउ बिनु अमलै अमली मरि जाई है तिउ हरि बिनु हम मरि जाती ॥ रहाउ ॥
Dhanaasaree, Fourth Mehl: The Lord, Har, Har, is the rain-drop; I am the song-bird, crying, crying out for it. O Lord God, please bless me with Your Mercy, and pour Your Name into my mouth, even if for only an instant. ||1|| Without the Lord, I cannot live for even a second. Like the addict who dies without his drug, I die without the Lord. ||Pause||
हे हरी! हे स्वामी! मैं पपीहा तेरे नाम-बूँद (नाम की बूँद) के लिए तड़प रहा हूँ। (कृपा करो), तेरा नाम मेरे लिए जीवन बूँद बन जाए। हे हरी! हे प्रभु! अपनी कृपा करो, आँख के झपकने जितने समय के लिए ही मेरे मुख में (अपने नाम की शांति) की बूँद दाल दे।१। परमात्मा के नाम के बिना मैं पल भर के लिए भी नहीं रह सकता। जैसे (अफीम आदि) के नशे के बिना अमली(नशे का आदि) मनुख नहीं रह सकता, तड़प उठता है, उसी प्रकार परमात्मा के नाम के बिना मैं घबरा जाता हूँ।रहाउ।

Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of God, who is all-powerful to save us. ||1|| Chhant: Save me, any way You can; O Lord God, I am Yours. My demerits are uncountable; how many of them should I count? The sins and crimes I committed are countless; day by day, I continually make mistakes. I am intoxicated by emotional attachment to Maya, the treacherous one; by Your Grace alone can I be saved. Secretly, I commit hideous sins of corruption, even though God is the nearest of the near. Prays Nanak, shower me with Your Mercy, Lord, and lift me up, out of the whirlpool of the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||
राग जैतसरी, घर २ में गुरु अर्जनदेव जी की बानी ‘छंद’ ।अकाल पुरख एक है और सतगुरु की कृपा द्वारा प्राप्त होता है। सलोकु। हे नानक! (कह) हे प्रभु! में तेरी सरन आया हूँ, तुम (सरन आए की) रक्षा करने की ताकत रखते हो। हे सब से ऊचे! हे अपहुच! हे बयंत! तू सब का मालिक है, तेरा सरूप बयां नहीं किया जा सकता, बयां से परे है।१। छंत। हे हरी! हे प्रभु! मैं तेरा हूँ, जैसे जानो वेसे (माया के मोह से) मेरी रक्षा करो। मैं (अपने) कितने अवगुण गिनू? मेरे अंदर अनगिनत अवगुण हैं। हे प्रभु! मेरे अनगिनत ही अवगुण हैं, पापों के घेरे में फसा रहता हूँ, रोज ही उकाई खा जाते हैं। भयानक माया के मोह में मस्त रहते हैं, तेरी कृपा से ही बच पाते हैं। हम जीव दुखदाई विकार (अपने तरफ से) परदे में करते हैं, परन्तु, हे प्रभु! तुम हमारे पास से भी पास बसते हो। नानक बनती करता है हे प्रभु! हमारे ऊपर कृपार कर, हम जीवों को संसार-सागर के (माया के) घेर से निकल ले॥१॥

हे भाई! गुरु की शब्द के द्वारा मैं अपने ह्रदय में परमात्मा का ध्यान धर्ता हूँ, और अपने जिव्हा से परमात्मा (के नाम) का जाप जपता हूँ।१। हे भाई! गुरु की हस्ती मनुख जीवन का फल देने वाली है। मैं (गुरु के) दर्शन करका सदके जाता हूँ। गुरु के कोमल चरणों को मैं अपने मन का जीवन का सहारा बनाता हूँ।१।रहाउ। हे भाई! गुरु की संगत में (रह कर) मैं जनम मरण का चक्र ख़तम कर लिया है, और आत्मिक जीवन देने वाली सिफत सलाह कानो से सुन के ( इस को अपने जीवन का) सहारा बना रहा हूँ।२।
